Return and Death of freaky-blinky
Freaky-blinky returned to my iPod shuffle this week (as in the one that was replaced last March).
I think it got freaked during the week when, during extensive use as a thumb drive, it started displaying a little strangely on a Windows laptop and wasn’t accessible. When I went to load it up for a run today I got the usual symptoms: wasn’t detected in iTunes, didn’t show as a mounted drive, could be seen as existing on the USB bus in the System Profiler. And, of course, when I went to play it I got the freaky-blinky green/amber combo.
This time however, a quick google found the iPod shuffle Reset Utility 1.0.1 for Mac on the Apple website and a support page that describes the problem. It’s a little unfortunate that the official Apple ipod shuffle troubleshooting pages don’t lead you to this utility though, sending you to a more general iPod troubleshooting page for the same problem description. Confused yet? There is also an iPod shuffle support page, that links to the reset utility, but only as the second topic in “hot topics” so I’m not sure if that’s a permanent link. And it took me ages to find that support page to start with! Thanks goodness for Google; sometimes.
Oh, the iPod shuffle Reset Utility 1.0.1 for Mac? Works like a charm, shame I can’t run for crap this year – but the soundtrack was fine.
