I don’t know if things have changed in Britain, but one thing I always found to be different in the US and UK cultures was the advertising. In the UK it’s more polite, focusing on the benefits of your product, and doesn’t directly mention the competition. In the US it’s more a down-and-dirty, mud-slinging, back-stabbing, fallacy-ridden face off of competitive evilness.

This Apple ad is of the “stick a knife in the competitions gut” style. Very funny, but I can’t feel better about seeing ads or wanting products based on advertising like this:
