By this time tomorrow, I’ll have finished the Seattle Marathon. I debated whether or not to do it for many weeks. FINALLY last week, I registered and committed to running. I don’t feel I’ve trained very much since the 50K, so I don’t have terribly high hopes for a fast finish. I’m reasonably confident I can finish the race, although I’m sure it won’t be the fastest I’m capable of. My goal is to finish in less than 4 hours (roughly a 9-minute mile). G and Lucy have plotted their support strategy and will cheer me on at about the halfway point, as well as the finish. In years past, the weather for the Seattle marathon has ranged from snowy and cold, to pouring rain. I lucked out this year – the current forecast is mid-40s and sunny.
This afternoon, I’ll lay out my gear for tomorrow: running clothes, hat, gloves, shoes, body glide, GUs, GPS, race number, water bottles, and a change of clothes for after the race. After that, it’s a big plate of pasta for dinner and (hopefully) a good night’s sleep. I’ll let you know how it goes. And if you want to see me at the finish line, I should be there between noon and 12:30.
